The War Inside

The War Inside (Editorial)

I guess we might as well go to war. Nothing else to do. We had the same shit going on on campus and in society during the so-called Vietnam war. Civilians don’t deserve to die, and yet war kills them faster than Drano cleans your drain. My dad was a front line submariner fighting the Japanese in the Pacific and we supposedly won that war. And the conflict continued when I joined the military. And draft offices were being bombed. Terrorist groups were rising and killing police and civilians. And three of the best leaders we ever had were gunned down within a three year period.

But I see wars inside people today; they war with themselves and then they take it out into the public. Issues are written on paper; they should be discussed and talked about for weeks and months if necessary. Today’s Congress in the United States shuttles through bills overnight for one issue they love that helps them gain more power and influence. The truth is not an easy thing to debate. In fact, in my opinion, it’s a constant struggle to uncover the modicum of truth that exists in reality.

They had zero security on that Utah campus. I hope the police check that shit out. Mr. Kirk was an excellent standup debater. He was very intelligent and didn’t deserve to die for words. Words are only symbols. When they become law, they become issues. Issues take longer to debate than shouting and shooting matches held in a college quadrangle. With no security.
After the military and teaching for over 25 years, I am today a complete pacifist, as I see that all nations are driving in the same direction: to gain power.  But many are not h0nest about this with their constituents. That’s the only struggle I see, and it’s what exists in the minds of many people I hear. I hope we are eventually allowed to calmly discuss at length the complex issues that must be solved to return to a government by the people, for the people. But the minute we politicize a death, we make it the people’s business. But it’s the hierarchy of death that frightens me most about my own country today. Just my opinion.
